We set out with a fire in our bellies. A feeling in our hearts we can’t ignore.

A force greater than us almost pulling us to bring this mission to life.

When you found something, you’re not just offering a product to the world. Instead, you’re creating a new reality…one that hasn’t yet existed, and therefore, one that often most people can’t yet see.

Physical matter is the slowest form of energy, of course. To bring this future into felt form other people’s hands, you have to hold it before it even exists.

And that holding often takes a toll.

The traditional rules of the entrepreneurial path reward this toll. To rise-and-grind = the highest badge of honor.

You proudly navigate this rite of passage. It acts as proof that you deserve what’s on the other side of your idea in action.

Naturally, you start skipping meals. A few extra hours of sleep each night. Your best friend’s engagement. A walk after dinner with your partner. A morning bike ride you used to love.

In short, you skip joy. It’s what’s required, of course…

You tell yourself you’ll take a break once you hit your next milestone. That milestone passes, and another is on the horizon. You’ve conquered one industry shift, and then another occurs. No end in sight.

And suddenly you wake up without even realizing that as the goals have come and gone, so have you.

Suddenly, it makes so much sense. Why your team no longer works with the same fervor they once did. Why your kids stop waiting up to see you when you get home. Why your audience is no longer converting no matter how many times you pivot.

The thread between them all? They’re human.

You can’t respond to humans if you’re not listening to your own.

You turn to the fire in your belly for hope, but all you find is ashes.

In all of this, you have forgotten to tend to the kindling of your own fire.

Aha.

Doing so is not softness, but the strategy you’ve been hoping for this whole time.

A strategy for being HUMAN AF.

Meaning a commitment to:

Staying aligned with your authentic values (even if the status quo differs)

Making reflection a regular practice (it’s what keeps you in alignment with the above)

Honoring your energy (and that of others)

Creating business and infrastructure that actually nourish you (not depletes you)

Remaining in community (with those who make it easy to have faith)

Leading with your why (trends come and go but your why is your forever compass)

Questioning the old ways (and trusting what feels true to you)

Protecting your humanity (AI can’t replace it)

The founder is the foundation.

And yes, we’re founders.

But before that, we’re human.

And we’re not going anywhere.
